It was seeing a need for a problem-solving, rather than partisanship, approach that made Laura Gillen decide to run for Hempstead Town Supervisor. Since her election in 2017, she has lowered taxes on Town residents while working to make the Town’s government more accessible and transparent. Supervisor Gillen is passionate about healthcare work, volunteering to assist people living with HIV/AIDS through GMHC during the height of the AIDS epidemic and working with All Hands and Hearts to distribute PPE to local police stations, businesses and health centers during the COVID-19 pandemic.
