John Avlon is a self-proclaimed “common sense” candidate who is committed to rebuilding the middle class, protecting women’s reproductive rights, investing in local infrastructure and combatting climate change. Policy goals include restoring SALT tax deductions, increasing the Child Tax Credit and passing reforms that encourage greater voter participation, such as the Freedom to Vote Act and the John Lewis Act. Avlon is an author, presidential historian and former CNN anchor who has received a wide range of endorsements including from acclaimed documentary filmmaker Ken Burns, labor union 1199 SEIU and former U.S. Senator Doug Jones. Avlon is running to represent New York’s First District which encompasses the east end of Long Island in Suffolk County.
